Ken Rae, CFA

Chairman & CEO

Ken Rae, before founding his own business in 1988, developed his investment expertise over 25 years while managing large multi-million dollar portfolios for financial institutions. He was the Investment Officer for Dominion Life before it was acquired by Manufacturers Life, giving him the responsibility for a broad investment portfolio. Since founding our firm, Ken has presided over The RaeLipskie Partnership’s successful growth.

Ken and his wife, Norah, reside in Waterloo and have two grown children. Ken has dedicated much of his life to volunteering with various organizations. He is the past president of the Investment Counsel Association of Canada (now Portfolio Management Association of Canada), the past chairman of Scouts Canada (north Waterloo district) and was the treasurer of his church. When Ken has some free time, he loves to ski, hike, curl, cycle and play tennis. Ken also enjoys the challenge of doing crosswords and sudoku puzzles.

Brian Lipskie, CFA

President

Brian Lipskie joined Ken Rae in 1989 to form Rae & Lipskie Investment Counsel Inc., an investment management company with 17 employees managing approximately $650 million on behalf of institutions and private clients. Brian’s investment career began in 1985 with Wood Gundy in private client investment management. He is a graduate of the University of Waterloo, and attained his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1990. In addition to actively participating in portfolio management at The RaeLipskie Partnership, Brian directs the operations of the Company.

Brain is actively involved in the Kitchener-Waterloo community. He is a past president of the Waterloo-Wellington Estate Planning Council, actively involved with Junior Achievement of Waterloo Region, and a member of the finance committee for the Congregation of the Resurrection in Ontario and the sisters of St. Joseph of Hamilton. Brian enjoys golf and resides with his wife, stepson and twin daughters in Kitchener, Ontario.

Ted Brough, CFA

Chief Investment Officer

Ted Brough joined the firm in 1997 after spending twenty-one years at Mu-cana Investment Counselling, the last thirteen years as President. Ted now uses his experience derived from directing investments for large pension and other institutional funds across North America to guide The RaeLipskie Partnership’s investment operations.

Ted and his wife, Mary, live in Elmira and have four grown children and a herd of grandchildren. Ted volunteers his time as a board member of the Woolwich Community Fund and serves as an elder at church. During Ted’s free time, he enjoys his cottage on Lake Huron, playing water sports in the summer, and snow sports in winter.

David Paleczny,

Investment Counsellor/ Portfolio Manager

David Paleczny joined The RaeLipskie Partnership in 1996 after a successful 24-year career with Mu-Cana Investment Counselling. He served as Senior Vice-President, Marketing & Administration and dealt with large pension fund and institutional clients across North America. David currently manages investment portfolios for select clients with our firm, and within our investment process, focuses on research for high dividend companies.

David and his wife, Mary, live in Conestogo, while their four children reside in various places across Canada – from Nova Scotia to the Yukon. Dave and Mary love to travel to interesting places around the world. They have hiked in China, New Zealand, Africa and have walked from Switzerland to Rome. David is also a past president of the K-W Symphony and still resides on the KWS Advisory Board.

David Martin, CIM

Investment Counsellor/ Portfolio Manager

David Martin began his investment career in 1987 upon joining Mu-cana Investment Counselling. In 1996, he became a principal in the successor company, Perigee Investment Counsel, dealing with large pension fund and institutional clients. David joined The RaeLipskie Partnership in 2004.

Dave has three children in university so Dave plans to work forever. Dave enjoys spending time at his cottage on Lake Huron with family and friends. His activities of choice include sailing, golfing, and skiing in the winter. A quiet evening catching a sunset is a perfect way to end the day for Dave.

Jo-Ann Carlisle, CIM

Investment Counsellor/ Portfolio Manager

Jo-Ann Carlisle, a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University, gained her investment knowledge and experience at the Prudential Life Assurance Company. Since joining The RaeLipskie Partnership in 1995, Jo-Ann has been sharing her experience and education while managing portfolios for our firm’s clients.

Jo-Ann is a member of CFUW (Canadian Federation of University Women) and is currently Chair of the Membership Committee. She has been spinning and weaving for more than ten years and enjoys crafts of most kinds. Two cats rule the roost at home but agree to leave things intact when Jo-Ann and her husband, John, are vacationing at their farm on Manitoulin Island.

Thomas Pick, MBA

Investment Counsellor/ Portfolio Manager

Thomas Pick began his investment career in the early 1970s in Toronto working on Private Client investment management. He also had a long career at Mu-cana Investment Counselling and then Perigee Investment Counsel as a Portfolio Manager for pension, institutional portfolios and private clients.

Tom resides in Kitchener with his wife, Margot. They have two girls with successful careers, one as a poet/author and the other an anti-addiction specialist. Tom is very involved in environmental issues, serving as president (in the past) for the Grand River Conservation Authority Foundation and is a member of the national board for Ducks Unlimited. When Tom has some free time, he loves the outdoors, especially canoeing, tennis, skiing and fly fishing.

Derek Rae, CIM

Investment Counsellor/ Portfolio Manager

Derek Rae acquired ten years of broad-based business management and field experience with a South Western Ontario building restoration firm. He joined The RaeLipskie Partnership in 2004 and is a CFA candidate.

Derek and his wife Lisa live in the Lincoln Heights area of Waterloo.  They have two wonderful teenaged daughters and a house full of pets both furry and scaly.

Derek is past president of The Rotary Club of Waterloo, enjoys playing music and, to keep things unpredictable, is currently studying the cello, piano and banjo.

Andréa Miljkovic, CFA

Investment Counsellor/ Portfolio Manager

Andréa Miljkovic joined The RaeLipskie Partnership in 2002. In her previous role as a Financial Consultant with CIBC Wood Gundy, she gained valuable experience in Private Client investment management and earned her CFA designation. Andréa currently manages investment portfolios for a select group of families, a number of Charitable Organizations and The RaeLipskie Partnership’s flagship private pooled fund. She is a member of the firm’s Investment Committee and is responsible for contributing to the firm’s investment research activities.

Andréa stays active in the Community as a Director for the Optimist Club of Puslinch, involved in a number of their endeavors supporting local youth, serving as a Professional Advisory Committee member of the Financial Planning program at Conestoga College, and volunteering for a number of local charities. She is a long-established volunteer coach with the Puslinch Minor Soccer League and active member of School Council. Andréa is dedicated to the lifelong pursuit of investment knowledge through continuing education, and in her spare time is a Bootcamp devotee, who enjoys biking, skiing, yoga and travelling with her family.

Rick Vandermey, CFA

Deputy Chief Investment Officer

Rick Vandermey joined the firm in 2014 after a multi-decade investment management career as Vice President-Portfolio Manager with Legg Mason Canada (and its predecessor companies, Perigee Investment Counsel and Mu-Cana Investment Counsel). Rick grew up and was educated in Kitchener-Waterloo and was based in the local community during his career in the institutional investment management business. During his time in that business, Rick had responsibility for managing some of the company’s largest pension, endowment and foundation client relationships, along with responsibility for Canadian, U.S. and international equity selection, balanced fund management and active asset allocation.

Rick graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree, and attained his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1985. At The RaeLipskie Partnership, Rick contributes to the firm’s investment research activities and manages client portfolios.

Rick and his wife Trish live in Waterloo. Their two adult children live in Toronto. Summer weekends are generally spent at Rick & Trish’s cottage on Lake Huron. Rick is an active volunteer in the community, giving his time to assist the KW Community Foundation, the KW United Way, and Wilfrid Laurier University. A long-standing volunteer coach for Waterloo Minor Soccer, Rick is also active in the Waterloo Cycling Club.

Taylor Echlin, FCSI

Investment Counsellor/Portfolio Manager

Taylor Echlin has merged his private practice with The RaeLipskie Partnership effective September 1, 2014. Taylor brings a great deal of knowledge, experience, and achievements to our firm. His career of over 40 years has been spent in the private wealth and pension fund management industries.

Taylor grew up in Waterloo and has maintained a residence here since 1970 while operating his business from Mississauga. We are confident that his skills, expertise, and personal diligence will be of great value to our firm, and that he will be an integral part of our continued success.

Dave Brune, CFA, CFP

Investment Counsellor/Portfolio Manager

Dave Brune joined our firm in October of 2016 after spending the last nine years at CIBC Wood Gundy, primarily as an Associate Investment Advisor. In addition to being a CFA Charter holder, Dave is also a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) having attained the designation in 2009. At The RaeLipskie Partnership, Dave contributes to the firm’s investment research, financial planning, and management of client portfolios.

Dave was born and raised in Cambridge, Ontario and graduated from the University of Waterloo. In his spare time, he enjoys running, travelling, and is a long-suffering fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Jim Harper, FCA

Director of Marketing and Client Development

Jim is our newest addition to the RaeLipskie Partnership family. Jim recently retired from BDO Canada, after forty years in public accounting providing business advisory services to businesses in Waterloo Region. At BDO he had served in various management positions including Chair of the National Policy Board and Waterloo Region Managing Partner. His primary functions will be as our Director of Marketing and Client Development to ensure our continued high level of personal and client focused service.

Jim is, and has been, very involved in our community, serving on boards such as St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation and Board of Trustees, The Cambridge & North Dumfries Community Foundation, Sandra Schmirler Foundation of Canada, Junior Achievement of Waterloo Region, University of Waterloo, and The Greater KW Chamber of Commerce among many others.

To relax, Jim enjoys golfing, reading political and history books, travelling, enjoying his cottage in Muskoka, and spending time with his wife, Pauline, his two grown children and his grandchildren.

Sheila Yendt,

Client Development

Throughout her working life, Sheila has found herself drawn toward the customer service functions of her employment and this is where she finds her greatest reward at The RaeLipskie Partnership. Working with our clients to help make their lives easier is a source of pride for her. Sheila has been working with The RaeLipskie partnership since 1994 and has evolved from fulfilling administrative responsibilities such as firm registration and securities trading to managing the administrative team and now championing our business development and marketing endeavours. She is well versed in and an invaluable resource for all aspects of our service. Her academic achievements include completion of the Canadian Securities Course and she has earned certificates from Conestoga College in Ontario Management Development in both Business Management Skills and Leadership Skills.

Sheila invests her spare time volunteering with the Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery and at running race events close to home and far away. She and her husband Rob live in Kitchener and have raised two lovely daughters here. Together they enjoy running marathons, skiing, hiking and spending time with family and friends.
